Mere is the Director: Prevention Innovation & Change, within the Iwi & Communities group at NZ Police, which holds the equivalent Superintendent rank. This role encompasses for Prevention Development, Prevention Strategy, Te Pae Oranga – Iwi Māori Community based resolution option and Te Raranga – NZ Police’s response to Hate Crime.
Prior to this she held several other police roles including Manager: MPES Strategy, National Strategic Advisor and Senior Media Advisor. Before joining Police, Mere worked for nine years at the national Health Promotion Agency. Those roles built and enhanced her skills working in cross-sector prevention partnerships, innovation, strategic development.
Mere was also the lead author of Te Huringa o Te Tai – NZ Police strategy to support and enable a service delivery uplift for Māori, through Iwi and community relationships. Mere also leads the response for NZ Police in Treaty Settlement Process with Iwi.
She is involved in several police governance boards, working groups and multi-agency forums. She is known for her commitment to the NZ Police vision, for building better outcomes for our community, young people and whānau, advice on cultural competence and capability and importantly having a people and whānau focussed response.
