Born and raised in Alice Springs, and a traditional owner of Central Australia, Arrernte woman Leanne Liddle has a passion for justice.
A lawyer with over 20 years’ experience, she began her career in police, where she was South Australia first Aboriginal Policewoman.
In her previous role as Director of the Aboriginal Justice Unit, Leanne travelled thousands of kilometres across the Northern Territory to meet, listen and hear the voices of Aboriginal people and stakeholders, visiting over 120 communities, to reshape the justice system.
Leanne was the driver behind the re-introduction of Community Courts, two highly successful Alternatives to Custody and law and Justice groups.
Leanne is kept busy with her commitments as board members of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Flinders University, and Deputy Chair of Menzies School of Health Research; she also has the honour of being NT’s 2022 NT Australian of the year.
Now as the Executive Director Community Resilience and Engagement Command: Northern Territory Police- with the support and guidance of the Police Commissioner, Michael Murphy, she has the task of delivering on cultural reforms, including racism-where her international United Nations experience and many formal academic qualifications will enable her to empower Aboriginal people with solutions that will work where others have failed.
