Michelle’s current role is Manager/Inspector, Safe Families Coordination Unit (SFCU). She has had involvement in the Tasmanian family violence sector since 2000 and was involved with a number of the ground-breaking Tasmania Government initiatives, including Safe at Home and the Same Homes; Safe Families Government Action Plans, which saw the creation of the SFCU. The SFCU is a permanent co-located group of personnel from the departments of Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Communities, Health, Justice and Education, who perform detailed analysis and assessments of the most at risk families.
Michelle joined Tasmania Police in 1993. Over her career she has worked in general duties around Tasmania, and then specialised in prosecution, strategy and legislation, government and cross-agency specialisation and family violence. She was promoted to inspector in 2019.
As an Inspector, Michelle was Officer-in-Charge of Western District Support Services where she had responsibility for Road and Public Order Services, Western Prosecution Services and Early Intervention and Youth Services and the Commissioners’ Office.
She was part of the operational team that was oversaw the response for the COVID-19 outbreak on the North-West Coast of Tasmania in early 2020. This saw three hospitals close, the furlough of health care workers and police, and the quarantining of entire communities across the North-West Coast.
Michelle holds a Bachelor of Arts with Professional Honours (Public Sector Leadership and Management), a Graduate Certificate in Applied Management (Policing and Emergency Services), and a Graduate Certificate in Police Studies.
