Craig Doran served with the Queensland Police Service for 22 years before transitioning to the field of information technology in 2011, where he founded Comtrac. His focus was on developing innovative solutions for investigation, evidence, and brief management systems. Over the past decade, Comtrac has grown to become one of Australia’s leading platforms for managing investigative workflows and evidence briefs, used by both Commonwealth and State Government regulatory agencies.
In 2020, Comtrac expanded internationally, partnering with law enforcement and regulatory agencies across the globe. The platform has been instrumental in assisting overseas agencies to streamline their investigative processes, providing solutions that integrate evidence collection, mapping, and report generation to support their criminal and regulatory investigations.
In 2023, Craig shifted focus toward AI services, leading the Comtrac AI engineering team to develop the world’s first AI-generated full brief of evidence for criminal investigations. This breakthrough allows AI to analyse exhibits collected during investigations, identify relevant evidence to prove offences, and generate complete briefs of evidence.
Building on this success, by 2023/2024, Comtrac’s AI capabilities evolved further, enabling the automatic generation of court-ready documents such as Domestic Violence Applications (Australia) and Arrest Affidavits (U.S.) directly from body-worn camera footage and other exhibits collected at the scene during frontline police responses. This leap in technology continues to save valuable time for law enforcement agencies while ensuring accuracy and efficiency in legal proceedings.
