
Jane Welsh has been a Victoria Police Officer for 36 years. Her career includes operational policing, prosecuting, and working as a detective in metropolitan Crime Investigation Units, the Homicide Squad, and Professional Standards Command.
More recently Jane was the Detective Superintendent in charge of the Cybercrime Division, Crime Command. This Division is comprised of the Cybercrime Squad and the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team. In this role Jane’s responsibilities included leading a program of work focused on building cyber capability across the organisation. Jane represented Victoria police on various national Committees which work towards strengthening partnerships across law enforcement, government, and industry to achieve community safety outcomes. Jane led the program of work to create Victoria Police’s first Cybercrime Strategy (2022-2027) and oversaw the execution of the first of five annual action plans. Jane is now a Commander attached to the Discipline Inquiry Office Legal Service Department.
Jane is a moral realist, and her intellectual interests include applied ethics and moral philosophy. Jane’s academic achievements include a Master of Leadership and Management (Policing), a Doctor of Policing and Security (Dissertation title: Cynicism Among Frontline Victoria Police: Supervisors’ Perspectives) and Master of Ethics and Legal Studies.
