
John joined SAPOL in 1989 and is currently the Service Coordinator for the Security and Emergency Management Service. In this role he has management of the SAPOL response to counter terrorism, emergency and event management, police communications, Special Task and Rescue Group and Police Security Services Branch and SAPOL Security Advice Section.
Since graduation in 1990 John has worked in general duties roles at Hindmarsh, Port Pirie and Henley Beach. In 1996 he undertook the Detective Training Course where he commenced as a Detective and worked in areas including Holden Hill CIB, Adelaide CIB, Drug and Organised Crime Investigation Branch and the former National Crime Authority.
He was promoted to the rank of Inspector in 2005 and has undertaken roles as the State Duty Officer, Operations Inspector at the Anti-Corruption Branch, Drug Investigation Branch and Organised Crime Investigation Branch. He was the Officer in Charge of the Crime Training Section and promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector in 2011 as the Operations Manager at the Elizabeth Local Service Area. In 2012 John was promoted as the Detective Superintendent in charge of the Crime Gangs Task Force prior to moving to the Investigation Support Branch.
From 2014 – 2017 John was the Officer in Charge of the Eastern Adelaide Local Service Area where he was the Police Commander for all events at the Adelaide Oval and responsible for the policing of the CBD and Eastern suburbs. In these roles he had significant experience with regards to emergency and event management and working closely with external agencies.
John was the implementation manager for the District Policing Model which was the most significant change in SAPOL’s history and was a recipient of the Australian Police Medal in the Australia Day Honours for 2022 in recognition of this work.
In 2020 he was promoted to Chief Superintendent and appointed as the Service Coordinator for the Metropolitan Operations Service, responsible for SAPOL frontline policing response in the metropolitan areas.
He has and continues to undertake roles as the Coordinator for the State Emergency Centre on an on-call basis and as the Executive Officer in the Police Operations Centre.
