Assistant Commissioner Joanne McCabe APM has a distinguished career in the WA Police Force that spans 35 years. Her extensive service includes a variety of frontline and investigative roles across the state.
In 2016, Assistant Commissioner McCabe was promoted to Commander, where she led the Policing Innovation and Improvement Division. Her focus was on developing and implementing strategic projects to advance policing practices within the WA Police Force.
In 2019, she was appointed Assistant Commissioner for Regional Western Australia, overseeing the operational delivery of policing services across all regions outside of the metropolitan area.
From 2020 to 2022, she managed the Operations Support Portfolio. In this role, she played a key role in building strong strategic partnerships aimed at driving cultural change and improving outcomes in key areas including Family Violence, Youth Policing, Community Services, Aboriginal Affairs and Police Custody.
During a 12 month secondment in 2022, Assistant Commissioner McCabe served as the Executive Director for Statewide Services at the Department of Communities, where she led a comprehensive restructuring of the portfolio.
Upon returning to the WA Police Force, she took on her current role as the Assistant Commissioner of Specialist and Support Services. In this capacity, she oversees critical areas such as Road Policing, Counter Terrorism and Emergency Response, ensuring the WA Police Force upholds its high standards of public safety and operational effectiveness.
Assistant Commissioner McCabe holds a Graduate Certificate in Public Sector Management and a Masters in Public Sector Leadership. Her contributions to policing and the community have been recognised with the awarding of the Australian Police Medal.
